We reported earlier that Asa Butterfield was preparing to be Marvel’s new Spider-Man, but that is not the case. Butterfield was in fact not even a finalist in the running for the role of Peter Parker, that role will instead go to another young actor. Tom Holland (Locke, How I Live Now) will be taking the helm of Peter Parker/Spider-Man, a role that was once held by Toby Maguire and recently Andrew Garfield.
Holland reportedly not only impressed in his solo screen test but also screen tested with Chris Evans (Captain America) and Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man).
The big question is rather Holland would appear in Captain America: Civil War? The short answer YES. Well…sort of. Holland is said to be making a cameo in the movie. Variety reported that Marvel felt comfortable with the lengthy casting process because Spider-Man’s involvement in Civil War movie was small.
Also while casting for Spider-Man in Atlanta, Marvel and Sony have found their director for the upcoming Spider-Man movie. Indie movie director Jon Watts (Cop Car) will be behind the camera. Cop Car gained Watts lots of acclaimed coming out of Sundance and he was praised for getting great performances out go his teenage actors.
Captain America: Civil War will hit theaters May 5th, 2016 and Spider-Man hits theaters July 28th, 2017.
