There have been whispers and rumors of Affleck wanting to write and direct the next installment of Batman films, but now it looks to be a reality.
News broke today that DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns and Bruce Wayne himself, Ben Affleck, will be handling the writing for the next Batman film. Deadline is reporting that the two are already in sync and plan to something done by late summer. The new movie will take place after the events of Batman v. Superman and Justice League, meaning we may not see it at the earliest 2017 or the latest 2018. The duo is looking to have their script turned in by late summer. Johns is known for his work as a writer on DC comic books and lending his talents to the Flash, Arrow and Supergirl TV show, so it will be interesting to see what he brings to the big screen.
Affleck will be directing the new Batman film as well but it will wait until he is done directing Live by Night. Live by Night has already been pushed back in favor of Batman v. Superman and Justice League. Also interesting here is there is no Batman film on DC/WB’s current superhero movie slate. This means that Affleck is trying to make this character his own and Batman-ing his way into the DCC movie slate.
What do you guys think of this dynamic writing duo and Batffleck directing? What Batman story would you like to see them adapt or would you rather something original? Sound off and let us know.
